Good Treats

They’re finally here. (Yes, we’ve been waiting too!)

After testing batch after batch of cakes and cookies, we’ve finally landed the right recipes for our new line of sweets.

We’re calling them Good Treats because they’re doubly good. While they have enough sweetness to satisfy your sugar craving, they’re also made with coco sugar. And if you’re watching your glucose level, you probably know what this means!

Coco Sugar 101

Coco or palm sugar is made from sap gathered from the unopened flower of coconuts. The sap undergoes a process of boiling to make the water part evaporate, and allowed to cool and solidify.

The end product is raw coconut sugar granules that are dark brown in color, like that of the mascovado made from sugarcane – but with more health benefits.

Here are some facts we’ve managed to read up on coco sugar:

It has a low glycemic index of 35. This means it’s ideal for diabetics because it doesn’t have the same “high” and “low” effects of white (cane) sugar.
It’s low calorie, also making it good for weight management.
It’s naturally rich in nutrients such as potassium, phosphorus, magnesium and micronutrients.
It’s organic--both in how it is processed (no additives or fermenting agents) and how it is grown (no chemical pesticides or fertilizers used in growing coconuts).
It supports Filipino agri-business. Through increased use of coco sugar, demand for the product is created, increasing production, and generating livelihood for Filipino farmers.
